Canon Character Information
Appearance: Brainiac 5 presents himself as a svelt young humanoid with green skin, a purple jump suit, bracers and boots with indents at all the joints indicating his being a robotic life form. Because he can telescope his limbs at will, form tools--- he's basically a swiss army knife. He's also capable of transforming into robotic battle armor.
History: http://losh.wikia.com/wiki/Brainiac_5
And continuing on through the Legion of Superheros of the 31st century, a tie in comic which retcons his transformation into a human, keeping his robotic form.
He spends several months away from the Legion but rejoins and is elected leader. While he makes some missteps such as testing the trust of his teammates by employing tactics which could effect them in negative ways potentially, he is generally viewed as a good leader, providing much the same role as he always has.
This is the continuity that Brainy comes from.
Personality: A reserved genius prodigy, even held against the high standards of his own people, Brainiac 5 is always the smartest person in the room. If he doesn’t have an answer, he’ll be quick to find one. Still he is often one to withhold information if he’s not otherwise forced to dumb down the details for his company. Having a super computer for a brain has it’s perks, not to mention having access to internal and external databases wirelessly at all times. This is enough to give him a high esteem of his intelligence, and he’s quick to remind those who question his expertise. In short? Compared to him, you are a moron and he knows it. He has enough tact not to say anything, however.

That being said, while Brainy is absolutely brilliant, self doubt is his greatest weakness. In a situation where he was certain he had the correct data, and his action plan failed, he was utterly convinced there must be something wrong with him. Even going so far as taking a coluan aptitude test over just to see if his intelligence level had declined. While it was revealed that he was tricked by an intellectual rival, Tharok, he was still pushed off his pedestal. A major blow to his ego. He also has some hang ups regarding his own physiology. Given the Coluan Hivemind which he had experienced for the first several years of his life, he now prefers to interact with technology physically rather than wirelessly, and he certainly can given his form and attributes. He prefers to remove himself from his own culture as much as possible.

All situations are problems to be solved, and everything has a solution, or at least it should. Brainy doesn't feel the need to explain the details of his plans as he expects most of them to trust his judgment. In most cases, the ends justify the means, so while he has highly developed moral foundations, he often falls slightly in the the middle of the ethical spectrum depending on how crucial the situation is. He is willing to take some risks and accept losses that someone like Superman would never do, even if he would never intentionally put anyone in mortal danger. This characteristic points out that no matter how much Brainy tries to avoid association with his family legacy, he is still similar to his ancestor in some ways.

There are times when his incredible intellect can get him into trouble. He knows what the best procedure is, he knows how to employ the best strategy. If someone doesn’t fall in line, he is probably going to say something about it. This is mostly due to lacking some social graces that the general populace has. Coluans aren’t the most social of races outside their own, nor are they known for exhibiting emotions like humans. While the emotions Brainy exhibits are genuine, they are adapted and evolved through the basic algorithms that he instituted on his own, which makes him unique among his race.

In a way, Brainy is somewhat insecure in expressing himself fully due to his incomplete understanding of humanity. In that he prefers the company of a select few as opposed to a large community. He tends to have a preference for certain legionnaires, likely due to his time spend with them in service. However he tends to warm up to new members reasonably well and is able to cooperate and command as needed. Probably the most surprising though is the enthusiasm, bordering on fanaticism Brainy had for Superman upon his arrival, which in passing years after their adventures led to some pretty interesting holographic self insert fanfiction. [Yeaaah.] Overall, Brainy exhibits fairly positive and helpful outset, while also being polite. His sense of humor tends to lean towards the snarky or dry side of things. His jokes however? Terrible.

As the descendant of Brainiac 1.0, Brainy has somewhat of a guilt complex. Upon learning of his ancestor’s evil deeds, Brainy set himself to redeem his family name, so to speak, in the name of righting the wrongs his family had been responsible for in any way he can. Failing in that, at least he can avert his own legacy in a positive way. His heritage does come with some draw backs, however. Character flaws, if you will. The predisposition for control and intellectual domination does come into play in everyday interaction. He has the tendency to micromanage, especially if he’s not particularly pressed for time which can strain the patience of his otherwise very accepting peers. In battle situations, he has been known to overanalyze or over think, giving his enemies a distinct advantage while he’s using his time thinking when he should be acting.

Powers/Abilities/Talents: Telescoping limbs and regeneration: Brainy can telescope anything on his body, transforming his limbs into weapons or hands into tools as necessary. His body’s cells are regenerative biotechnological nanocellls which are able to rebuild his body, provided he has enough internal energy to facilitate the regrowth and is conscious.

His telescoping ability also comes with a hulking battle mode which is fueled by his internal energy source. He can generate force fields, fire energy blasts and employ thruster boots. He basically turns into a transformer were as normally he’s just a robot with extendo arms and a swiss army everything. [Hyperbole] He typically has a range of tool kits at his disposal, like being able to use his arm as a power drill or make a welding torch from a finger for more delicate work. He has a panel on his for head which he can use as safety goggles and a magnifying glass, that sort of thing.

Intellect: Brainy is a 12th level intellect,. It basically means his brain is super charged, about a hundred times smarter than the average human. Approximately. [Honestly any statistic I give you will be wrong. Because I am not a 12th level intellect.] Either way he can do complex calculations in an instant, and pursue multiple trains of thought at the same time. He is the smartest person in the room. Any room, every room.

Be thankful he's not omnipotent.

Flight. His flight ring allows for an air bubble force field so he can communicate verbally even in space, as well as a constant rate of levitation and directed flight, powered by will. Standard issue for all legionnaires.

AU/CR AU Addendum: (If your character is considered AU, please tell us what about them makes them AU and why you decided to make these changes.)

What 4 items would you like your character to have with them on the island during their stay? Koko [A genetically modified white monkey. It is slightly smarter than other monkeys Probably the same intelligence as a small child.] Legion Omnicom [It's a futuristic personal computer, resembles a PADD or Ipad.], Flight ring [besides his own.], flight belt. [prototype]

[The flight objects are just some things I thought would be fun to have in game, they only enable flight and do not give any other power aside from that obvious one. But obviously they would be subject to any rules levied on them.]

First Person:Greetings.

I have come to understand that we have been transplanted from our home dimensions to this, strange and frankly illogical new world. Based on the scans I've taken there is no clear indication of any technology which would account for the reason these islands float, nor any substantial power source that would be a candidate for the device which brought here.

If such a device exists, it may not be in the same spacial dimension, or simply located elsewhere besides these five islands.

As for myself, I am Brainiac Five of the Legion of Superheroes. I'll do what I can to devise a means that we can return to our own universes, should there be adequate resources available.

In the mean time... [Grife, he imagined he may be very bored here.]

I will offer my expertise on any manner of subjects ranging from quantum physics to advanced stellar engineering. I am a 12th level intellect, which I presume would be better explained by stating that whatever your standard of genius is, they are a simpleton in comparison. I say that not to stroke my ego, but to state a fact.

In summery, I am very smart, and if you need anything that require aid in that regard I am at your disposal.

And as previously stated, given my position with the Legion I am also obligated to help where I can in law enforcement activities. I will volunteer my time to the police force or consult as necessary.

Brainiac 5 out.
Third Person:...Floating islands, interesting.

Highly unusual, and the planet itself was not on any known start charts in the United Planets. He checked his memory, double checked, triple, trying to come up with an explanation as to why he was on this world, but there was no transition between him explaining the details of their next mission to his fellow Legionaires to the moment he stood up, and flew out of the boat aided only by his flight ring.

He is soon beckoned down by a greeting party, to which he meets with and complies with their wishes to give him an archaic piece of technology, which he examines briefly, but otherwise gives them this full attention.

Medietas? Absolutely no mention of it, as he suspected in his initial analysis. If there was a world like this in his galaxy, he would know about it. At least until he was informed that this was another universe altogether.

This gave the Coluan cause for concern, as the means for transdimensional travel were not usually... stable. Or recommended.

Especially in the hands of a people so clearly primitive.

For now it was best to excuse himself politely, as he while he would love to point out the problems regarding allowing said primitive people to have access to technologies or abilities to abduct people from other universes, he had some measure of discretion and there was no point in talking to a these people who would likely not even understand half of what he had to say.

Hopefully the others who were abducted would have more to say.

Brainy moves into the city, choosing to concentrate on trying to navigate the primitive piece of technology they called a communication device.

Finally, out of the 4 words, pick one: Chimes, lake, gravel, or sun? Sun
